Annie Le Vouger recalls her relocation to France at the height of her teenage years. Her first book to be published, Annie describes the trials and tribulations she felt she faced at the age of 15.

A book predominantly based on the life of a teenager is not frequently regarded as something of interest. It would more commonly be associated with the ranting of a hormonal youth. However, Annie writes with an amusing undertone, that a woman of any age can enjoy. What Annie obviously felt was an injustice, moving away from friends to live in the mountains, we can see as an amusing anecdote, perhaps even one that can be related to as we have all felt hard done by at some point in our teen years.

Annie begins by describing her parents love for the South of France and her father’s dream of living there. She sets about making it particularly clear that she could think of nothing worse than travelling for two days straight by car and staying in the most rural parts of France. It is at this point she highlights the pinnacle of her drama when she is forced to uproot and move there.

She soon settles into her surroundings when she starts school and then she discovers a new world in Cannes, where she mixes from teenagers from all over the world. Her dilemma however soon returns when her exams finish and she moves further into suburbia to complete the renovation of her parents beloved sheep shed. From learning a new language to discovering boys, the trials and tribulations of this teenager make for an entertaining read.

This is a story that can easily be related to, covering every aspect of a teenage girl’s life. How Annie adjusts to her surroundings whilst trying to be a normal teenager makes this tale more than a simple travel memoir.
